So. Miss me? Three plus weeks of work hell are slowly settling down into a new normal. I am finally getting home at a decent time again. Of course, in the middle of everything going on at work, we had to move. The new home is frikken awesome, but I will be befuddled by where everything is for weeks.
With all the work and the move, I haven't been able to write much. I did manage to revise the ending I spoke about in this post, but I have yet to write the final chapter and the epilogue. Partially, its because I am so tired, I can barely pee straight. (I tend to lean to the left a little when I am tired). But I have to admit that it is partially because I am still ruminating on the ending.
There are a couple way of handling it. I can wrap up the final scenes and tie off the remaining loose ends immediately after the final battle right there in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip, or I could jump to a couple of days later and spend a little more time with the characters in a 'look back' version. Both ways have positives, but they also both have drawbacks.
Ending it right away will feel abrupt. Sort of "Boom, we're done!". I am not sure I want to do that, but it will also carry a lot more gravitas as the emotions of the ending will still be very present.
Ending it a few days after the last battle will allow me to have the character 'look back' on some things, making tying up the loose ends easier and will allow for a smoother transition to the end of the book, but it also can't be too long or it feels like the Neverending Ending. You know, like the last Lord of the Rings movie.
In the meantime, I am editing and revising. Revisiting work I haven't looked at in over a year. I am also enrolled in a self-editing online course taught by a professional editor and it has been worth the $50 in just the first two days. A couple of simple tricks using the 'Find/Replace' function of Word and I have a MUCH cleaner and peppier manuscript!
So let's get back on the train, shall we? Time to finish this book and move on to the querying phase!
