In my two months of medical leave, I missed quite a lot. Not missed in the "I wish I was there" kind of way, but in the "where the hell is AA and why the heck did he not finish his part" kind.
In other words, there was stuff I was supposed to be doing that I couldn't that I now have to catch up on, even though I have no flippin clue what I am supposed to be doing.
One of these was the end of a yearlong series of seminars to learn about the history of my institution and those who founded it. For two days every other mont, I gather with people in the Nun Hut and learn about lots of Good Stuff.
This is the last month and then I graduate. Too bad there is a final project due and I am clueless.
Thankfully, there are some really cool peeps I work with and I was allowed to part of their group. They put in a lot of effort to come up with the first 90% of a project to present during our scheduled time, but today we had to wrap it up. As you can imagine, when someone else has done most of the work, and you are riding their coattails into the final exam, your kinda-sorta required to volunteer for the last part. So I did. Project Ugh began.
Ugh because they wanted me to 'voice over' the slide presentation that was going to be playing on a YouTube video. So it wasn't just 'talk into the recorder', it was talk, synchronize and oh yeah, don't ruin the music.
So I set out earlier tonight to complete Project Ugh as quickly and as pain free as possible. Lo and behold, while syncing is royal pain in the ass, I found out I kinda like doing voice over. I don't have the deep baritone MoviePhone voice, but it ain't bad once I get over that whole 'is that really me' feeling of having my voice played out loud over and over. So Project Ugh turned into Project Yay mostly because I found out it was sort of fun. Which, I believe, was exactly the nuns' intent when they told us to do this project.
Go figure. Nuns were right.
